In 1938 the pioneering Kirk family chose five acres of land along the banks of the Courtenay River to build their home. The house and carefully tended gardens soon became the site for innumerable social events including many community weddings. The Kirk family continued to live and entertain in the home right up until the beginning of its transformation into the Comox Valley’s premiere dining establishment in 1973.
After six months of renovations by a select team of tradesmen using huge fir timbers, the wooden doors opened for the first time to The Old House Restaurant in June 1974. The elegance of an older home, combined with the rugged West Coast architectural design and three fireplaces, created an ambience of relaxed enjoyment.
Over the years, expansion continued through the addition of a charming summer patio and sunlit dining room dominated by a large stone fireplace and skylights. To this day, both first time and long time patrons continue to be drawn to the lush gardens surrounding the property.
While there have been some changes over recent years, The Old House Restaurant remains a landmark in the Comox Valley. The magnificent timbers, lush gardens and flowing river provide a relaxed setting for every occasion. So sit back and enjoy your friends and family, and let us take care of the rest.
